Practice
Practicing faith is not especially difficult.
When you get up in the morning,
give thanks and pray for a good day,
as if you are talking to your parents.
When you go out, inform Kami that you are leaving.
And when you return home,
give thanks for returning home safely.
Also, before going to sleep,
give thanks for that day.
This is practicing faith.
GII: Hirano Goroshiro 2-2
At the beginning when the Founder, Konko Daijin, was engaged in Toritsugi mediation, most people came to him with their own requests. Konko Daijin assured them about receiving a particular divine blessisng, but at the same time he taught them to practice faith. For instance, Konko Daijin responded to a request by Rikizo Ogihara,
"Even if I pray for her, she cannot receive divine blessings unless she also practices faith. She should practice faith because she will surely receive divine blessings." (Kyoten-Gorikai I, Ogihara S. 1-7)
Not many people, however, asked Konko Daijin how they should practice faith. Hirano Goroshiro is one of the few people who asked this question, and Konko Daijin's answer was quite clear and simple. We must be aware of the fact that in this particular teaching there is a key to open the door of true faith.
First of all, we should not think that practicing faith is difficult. Our positive attitude must be to think that it is possible. Secondly, we must treat Kami as our Living Parent. We should speak as if we are talking to our parent when we give our requests, thanks, and apologies. Lastly, we should inform Kami of every matter from the time we get up in the morning until the time we go to bed - this is practicing faith.
