Prayer
Set your own due date to receive divine blessings,
then give your requests.
Ask to receive divine blessings within a week
or within a day, or even right now.
If there is no sign of blessings on your due date,
request again.
If there is still no sign,
request again for a third time.
You must not give up.
Request persistently and watch for divine blessings.
GII: Konko Hagio 13-1
In this teaching, Konko Daijin shows us an effective technique when giving our prayers. Setting due dates for receiving divine blessings is similar to an athlete who sets goals for his training. The athlete's goals help him focus his exercise routine on concrete tasks which lead to the desired result - a strong and healthy body. In the same way, due dates for divine blessings helps us focus our practice of faith on concrete tasks which will lead to divine blessings.
Konko Daijin gives valuable advice for our prayers. He teaches us to be patient and persistent. We must realize that the due dates we set are tools to develop our faith, and use them for that purpose. We must also realize that there are many factors which contribute to our receiving of divine blessings. In this teaching, Konko Daijin tells us to continue making our request even when divine blessings do not come immediately, for only with such strong and consistent faith can our request eventually be realized.
We should follow the words of Konko Daijin so we can more fully receive divine blessings. We should request wholeheartedly using due dates to focus our prayers, be patient and persistent as we pray, and optimistically await divine blessings with confidence. Konko Daijin and thousands of his followers have shown this brings real results.
