Principle Parent

A metal cane will get bent,
and a bamboo or wooden cane will break. 
Therefore, use Kami as your cane. 
Kami can never be bent,
can never break, and can never die.

A cane will be used for support or to prevent one from falling when weak or injured.  Similarly, people always seek something to lean on in their lives, such as insurance or money in the bank, to prevent suffering.  Unfortunately, these "canes" can bend or break and cannot be relied upon completely.  Konko Daijin tells us in this teaching to use Kami as a cane.  Only Kami can be depended upon at all times anywhere, for any situation.

Since Kami is not visible you might have doubts or hesitation about depending on Kami.  You might wonder if Kami really understands and hears your prayers.  You need not hesitate, however, because Konko Daijin has taught that Kami will always be with you upon your beckoning.  Practice faith with firm confidence that Kami will provide divine blessings.

When you are facing adversities and necessity arises, it is most comforting to have faith and be able to turn to Kami for support.  Kami will never let you down.  Kami will always provide divine blessings to those who pray sincerely with single-hearted faith.
