Reformation of One's Heart
Listening to teachings is not enough.
You should make some effort
to find faith within yourself,
then receive divine blessings.
GII: Kondo Fujimori 18-1
Konko Daijin's teachings are usually very simple and plain. Although some of them may sound common, they teach us some fundamental spiritual attitudes which we should take in various aspects of our lives. Just like numerical formulas in mathematics by which we can solve problems, Konko Daijin's teachings guide us to the way to overcome difficulties in one's life.
To learn the ways of Konko faith, we must study Konko Daijin's teachings. We must also seek new teachings by receiving Toritsugi Mediation. We can then gain knowledge of the basic principles for living a life based on Konko faith in the twentieth century.
Listening to teachings is important to us for acquisition of knowledge; however, application of teachings to our daily lives is more important. We need practice to apply teachings in various situations and through such exercises we are able to develop faith within ourselves. Konko Daijin did not regulate our doings by telling us how to apply teachings to each and every situation; it really depends upon the effort and creativity of each of us.
